In artist, status anxiety

"In artist, status anxiety" is a long-term research project that I started in 2023, focusing on mental anxieties of contemporary art and artists. It extends from my pervious art-writing "Knowledge Anxiety of Contemporary 'Elites'" and related before research and artworks. The research aims to reflect on the social and intellectual work of contemporary artists and explore the connection between personal and artistic identity. It also examines how contemporary art can maintain its openness and criticality in a society inundated with overwhelming media and information.

The four main research directions:
  • Status/knowledge/identity anxiety of artists
  • Relationship between contemporary art, artist and elitism
  • Media and information manipulation in now society
  • The essence of soul

'In Artist, Status Anxiety' continue working with conceptual art, incorporating ready-made objects and repaired design objects. The research are including artworks, local and overseas exhibitions, short essays or art writing publications, public sharing, or any forms of output. The opening chapter exhibition titled "In Artist, Status Anxiety (2024) take place in Hong Kong, and a collection of art-writing book titled "I mentioned during an fine art major interview that I was reading books by ancient Greek poets and I got the offer. At that moment, I felt disgusting"

I mentioned during an fine art major interview that I was reading books by ancient Greek poets and I got the offer.
